Easter is around the corner, and if you haven’t realised that yet then you obviously have not begun prepping for the annual Easter egg hunt. And after all why wouldn’t you there are chocolates, sweets and delicacies galore available in the shops to indulge the tables of you and your family this Easter weekend, however there are some who will not be celebrating in this way. The question we at Sir Holiday wanted to investigate is if whether or not the people who throw out the Easter egg hunts have gotten something right and we instead have missed the elusive true meaning behind this holiday. Therefore, without further ado let us go on a hunt for the real reason to celebrate Easter this year, besides the chocolate bunnies!

The True Meaning of Easter

Many of you may be familiar with the Christian biblical tale for the origin of Easter, if not let us take a walk down memory lane with you. In the story, Jesus seats his twelve disciples all together at a feast and breaks bread and wine with them declaring that this is the last time that he will have those things. There is of course great confusion to the vast majority of the group, except for Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus and sold him out to the Roman generals.

Anyway, after the dinner Jesus goes to pray in a garden and then the Roman generals through directions and signals given by Judas are able to apprehend Jesus. After this time period Jesus is flogged and ultimately, ends up being crucified by the Romans. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ leads to humanity being freed from sin as through Jesus’ death all of humanities’ generations were absolved from any future sin.

The True Meaning of Easter

Following Jesus’ death his body was taken down from the cross, cleaned by a select group of people who were still loyal and brave enough to associate with him. Finally, the body was left to rest peacefully in a tomb, however three days later on Easter Sunday Jesus rose from the dead and so we have the triumph of Easter. The fact that during this weekend, Jesus not only survives being betrayed and taking on the ultimate sacrifice for human sin since the garden of Eden but also that Jesus did what no human has done. He was able to defeat death and live again until such time that he was called back home to heaven by God the father.

As you can clearly see, the true reason for Easter being celebrated is far more detailed than the one that is so often depicted in the media. Therefore, during this holiday why not challenge yourselves and your families to focus more on the true spirit of the season and less on the commercial side of the holiday. One way you can do this is by watching movies or documentaries that will remind you that the main thing to look forward to over this holiday is not a chocolate bunny or candy egg, but rather the sacrifice that began it all.
